This study aims to evaluate the reception, critique, and circulation of Arnold Schoenberg’s work in Brazil throughout the 1930s. Based on an analysis of commentaries published in periodicals from Rio de Janeiro, the Federal Capital at the time, we observe that while the composer was recognized as a leading figure of musical modernism, his works and musical techniques remained relatively unknown to concert audiences.
