This article presents a formal and stylistic analysis of the work Polish Caprice (1949) for solo violin by the composer Grazyna Bacewicz (1909–1969). It aims to relate parameters such as form, thematic and motivic resources, rhythm, articulation, and agogics based on the concepts of Capriccio and Hauptsatz by Bonds (1991) and the descriptions of formal functions from Mathes (2007). The article mentions the quest for a sound reminiscent of popular Polish violin music, as the Polish Caprice refers to a Polish folk dance, the kujawiak. In conclusion, specificities of Bacewicz's compositional style in this work are highlighted.
