Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Como parte do processo de submissão, os autores devem verificar a conformidade da submissão em relação a todos os itens listados a seguir (em caso de verificação de desacordo com as normas, os textos submetidos serão devolvidos aos autores):

    a) a contribuição é original e inédita, e não está sendo avaliada para publicação por outra publicação;

    b) o arquivo eletrônico da submissão está em formato Microsoft Word ou RTF, e não exige mais de 10 MB de armazenamento;

    c) o texto segue os padrões de estilo (formatação) e os requisitos de referenciação descritos na seção “Diretrizes para Autores”

    d) considerando as normas e procedimentos de um sistema de avaliação cega, o texto submetido segue as recomendações e instruções de anonimato disponíveis em “Assegurando a avaliação pelos pares cega”. Enfim, devem-se tomar todos os cuidados para não revelar a identidade de autores e avaliadores; isto exige que os autores, por sua parte, tomem algumas precauções com o texto e as propriedades do documento, a seguir discriminadas:

    e) os autores podem citar nos trabalhos submetidos outros trabalhos de sua autoria, desde que em 3ª pessoa, ou seja, sem assumir sua autoria. Quando por qualquer razão de argumentação for necessário assumir a autoria de trabalhos anteriormente publicados (ou em fase de publicação), estes devem ser referenciados por “Autor, ano” e, preferencialmente, deve-se adotar o procedimento da paráfrase ao citá-los — devem-se evitar, pois, as transcrições literais de textos daqueles trabalhos.

    f) o(s) autor(es) deve(m) também concordar com os termos da “Declaração de Direito Autoral”, que inclui:

    g) o(s) autor(es) declara(m) que é(são) de fato autor(es) e titular(es) da propriedade intelectual da obra submetida e que a mesma não infringe direitos autorais e/ou outros direitos de propriedade de terceiros;

    h) o(s) autor(es) mantém(êm) os direitos autorais e concede(m) gratuitamente à Associação Brasileira de Teoria e Análise Musica (TeMA), editora de Musica Theorica, os direitos de primeira publicação, de eventual tradução para outro idioma e de reprodução por qualquer processo ou técnica;

    i) o(s) autor(es) tem(êm) autorização para assumir contratos adicionais, imediatamente após a publicação do trabalho na Revista, para distribuição não exclusiva do mesmo (ex.: publicar em repositório institucional ou como capítulo de livro), desde que assinalem o reconhecimento de publicação inicial nesta revista;

    j) considerando a possibilidade de aumento do impacto do trabalho publicado, o(s) autor(es) tem(êm) permissão e é(são) incentivado(s) a publicar e distribuir seu trabalho online (ex.: em repositórios institucionais ou em páginas eletrônicas pessoais), a qualquer momento, após sua publicação na Revista, devendo, contudo, assinalar o reconhecimento de publicação inicial em Musica Theorica;

    k) A editoria de Musica Theorica pode considerar a necessidade de efetuar alterações de ordem normativa, gramatical, ortográfica e de diagramação nos originais dos artigos submetidos, com vistas a manter a coerência gráfica da publicação e o padrão culto da língua, respeitando, porém, o estilo dos autores. Fará então as devidas recomendações ao autor, que tem assim a oportunidade de aceitar ou não o recomendado.

Author Guidelines

Guidelines for Articles

All articles should be unpublished and should follow the format specified below:

  • Word count: 6,000 to 12,000 words (not including general title, abstract, keywords and references)
  • Format: .doc or .rtf (up to 10Mb).
  • Margins: left, right, top and bottom of 2.5 cm.
  • Font type and size: Times New Roman, 12
  • Paragraphs: spacing of 1,5 and justified (both left and right justified)

During the editing process, articles will be adapted to the project and editorial format of the Musica Theorica Journal.

Text: The first page of the article should contain:

Title, abstract and keywords in the language used in the article (e.g. English, Spanish or Portuguese). For papers submitted in English, please also include title, abstract and keywords in Portuguese. For papers submitted in Portuguese and Spanish please also include title, abstract and keywords in English.

Abstract should give an overview of the field of study, background, aims, methodology, results and conclusions and should be no longer than 300 words, formatted in Times New Roman 12 font, single spaced, justified alignment.

Keywords: from three (3) to five (5), left alignment.

Sections: Where text is subdivided into sections, the titles of these sections should be written in bold, Times New Roman font type, size 12.

Music Examples, Graphics and Figures shall be in tiff or jpeg format (600dpi)

Tables may be set in word docx or image format (tiff or jpeg).

Figures and Music Examples should be inserted in the body of the text, with proper numbering (e.g. Figure 1 or Figure 2, etc. or Example 1, etc.) and should be accompanied by a succinct caption with a maximum length of 3 lines (Times New Roman 10, single spaced, inserted below the illustration). After approval of the article, the images may be requested separately in .jpeg or .tiff file, with a minimum resolution of 600 dpi.

Tables should be inserted in the text with the proper numbering (e.g. Table 1, etc.) and accompanied by a caption with a maximum extension of 3 lines (Times New Roman 10, single spaced, inserted below the illustration).

Musical symbols such as sharp, flat, natural etc. may be inserted in the text body using Bach font by Yo Tomita freely available in http://www.mu.qub.ac.uk/tomita/bachfont

 

References in the body of the text: Indications of the sources should be structured in parentheses and follow the author date system as follows:

  • A single authored work: (Meyer 1994, p.15)
  • A work with two or three authors: (Denzin; Lincoln 2005, p.30) or (Cohen; Manion; Morrison 2000, p.36)
  • A work with more than three authors: (Creech, A. et al., 2008, p.216-17)

 

References at the end of the article:

Quotations:

Quotations of less than three lines must be inserted in the text and enclosed in double quotation marks (single quotation marks are used to indicate citation within the quotation). These short quotations should be followed by parentheses indicating the source, according to author date system.

Quotations which exceed three lines must be indented 4 cm from the left margin, followed by the indication of the source according to the author date system (no quotation mark, font size 11, single spaced).

Footnotes: All footnotes should be numbered and appear in the footer.

 

The final version of the paper should contain:

• Full name (s) of the author (s) (Times New Roman 12, italic, right alignment), followed by link and email address of the institution (Times New Roman 10, italic, right alignment);

• Articles are the sole responsibility of the author(s).

Papers should be submitted through the "Submissions Online" section on the journal's own page. All required fields must be completed. In the" Summary of Biography " field a short CV (Curriculum Vitae) of approximately 120 words must be provided, if the paper is about to be published.
